The new year syndrome

First of all, happy new year! I wish you all the best for 2023. We all know the slogan “New year, new me”, one of the most popular quote we read everywhere when entering a new year. Therefore, It can only be true if you really want to make this change.

This “new year, new me” leads people to make extreme and crazy changes in their life instead of making small steps into the “new me”. We usually set unrealistic goals and end up failing because we want to do things so fast when we are not really willing to do them.

New year, new body

Being active and looking to have your “dream body” doesn’t require training hardly if your body is not (anymore) used to it. Especially if you have not done any sport for a long time. What's the point of starting an extreme gym session if you're going to faint afterwards? You can, for example, start by just walking or running every day as much as you can.

“New year, new diet” 

I have seen everywhere the detox juices and recipes make their comeback as always in January: “I am doing a full month of only drinking hot water with lemon and eating a cucumber”. Trust me, you don't need to do that. Furthermore, lemon is not good for your teeth as its acidity can damage the gums and causes tooth sensibility - It is important to know the impact some food can have on your body and health.

You don’t need to starve yourself to have a “perfect body” because the perfect body doesn’t exist. Instead of doing a drastic diet you will stop in a few days…You practice the 80-20 rule which involves eating healthy most of the time (80%) and have a piece of cake (20%). I promise you won't be frustrated by not eating what you want, especially if you’re one of those people who get mad or cry when they’re hungry.

We have to learn to appreciate ourselves and our unique journey. You are in competition with no one - do not hesitate to read the previous article That girl is you! We need to take the time to be grateful for what we have while working for what we want without draining ourselves. 

New year, sleep more and rest

During this new year, we can try to change our sleeping routines as our life depends on it. The best way is to start sleeping earlier and try not to use your phone for at least 30 minutes or an hour before going to bed. Furthermore, the earlier you sleep, the longer your day will be and you will accomplish more tasks. Therefore, if you’re really tired and feel the need to rest, do not hesitate to sleep as much as you want because sleep is the best medicine for our health

We only need to have an active and healthy life, and to stop being pressured into doing things we’re not deeply committed to. Again and again, it’s not because you see it everywhere or everybody is doing it that you have to do the same too. Take your time. Step by step, you will achieve what you really want.
