Understanding Botox: Everything You Need to know
Botox has become one of the most popular and widely used beauty treatments. It can be tempting to try it, especially if you are afraid of aging. With so many new options available, choosing the right treatment can be overwhelming. Here are six important things you need to know if you are considering getting Botox.
What is Botox?
Botox used to be a toxin used to heal migraines. Nowadays, small doses of botox is used to remove wrinkles by temporarily paralyzing facial muscles. Your face will make fewer movements with botox and this is how you will get fewer wrinkles.
Botox in action
Botox freezes most of our facial expressions such as smiling or frowning. Over time, these expressions can create lines and wrinkles on the face. It’s important to remember that there is nothing wrong with having wrinkles or facial lines.
How long do the results last?
Botox usually paralyzes muscles for 3 to 6 months depending on each person. The good news is that only a small dose is enough to do the job. You’ll notice smoother and more youthful skin within 6 days of your treatment.
By using Botox continuously for years, your muscles will be trained to prevent expressions from becoming permanent lines.Even if you stop using Botox, your face won’t suddenly become wrinkled as the effects of Botox will continue to help delay the aging process.
When should you consider it?
We do not recommend botox if you are in your twenties or early thirties as you could get the opposite effect and look older than you are. Many celebrities are the best example of this. There's no need to get many injections as this can result in an unnatural face. The goal of Botox is to maintain a natural-looking face while reducing wrinkles.
Pay the price
Do not hesitate to spend money, especially if you’re considering getting Botox and to have a baby face. It is not worth choosing the cheapest option or estheticians as you might end up paying more for someone else to fix the problem if something goes wrong.
Keep in mind that this is a medical procedure that should only be performed by a qualified medical professional or a licensed esthetician. Make sure to do some research before diving into it.
What they don’t tell us
Everyone can benefit from Botox and it's not just for treating wrinkles. It can help with migraines, excessive sweating as well as teeth grinding.
Baby Botox is Botox but injected in a smaller quantity. You will only experience fewer side effects and the recovery time is shorter. Botox can go wrong if injected into the wrong muscle. You can notice it if some parts of your face are uneven or if the pain is strong and lasts longer than usual.
Once you start getting Botox, you may become addicted as you might not be satisfied and will always want more. This can result in a frozen face, a botched face or masculine look if you overdo Botox to get a structured jawline. This is why we should consider botox as a preventive treatment.
Genetics also play an important role in the appearance of wrinkles. There's nothing wrong with looking naturally older or younger than your age. We may have the same age with our friends but we won't age the same way. Sometimes it’s good to give your face the time to embrace itself and to experiment life's ups and downs.
